Meet the Composer.

Anna Olsen is an Arizona-based composer with a passion for music. Since the beginning of her musical journey, she has believed in the importance of variety and sought ways to explore variety through music. She has participated in many ensembles as a cellist, percussionist, and vocalist, including Mesa Community College’s Concert and Jazz Choirs, and in the Basha Indoor Percussion Ensemble.

Under the direction of Dr. Vanja Nikolovsky, Anna has used her interdisciplinary experience to write music that has been recognized by the community. Her trio for piano, cello, and violin, titled “Sonata in A Minor,” won First Place in the Maricopa Community College District’s “Artists of Promise” Music Competition for Acoustic Music in 2025. This piece was also a finalist in the 6th Annual Vienna International Music Competition for the Composition Category. “Finis origine pendet,” her atonal string quartet, was also an honorable mention for Arizona’s 2025 Music Teacher National Association's Competition for Composition.

Anna is currently finishing her Associate's Degree in Music at Mesa Community College. After graduating, she will be transferring to Arizona State University in the Fall of 2026 to continue her passion for composition. In her free time, Anna enjoys all things creative, especially crochet, or winding down with a puzzle book.
